Hans van Breukelen kicks off Executive MBA in Sports Management at MSM

Executive MBA in Sports Management ambassador and soccer icon Hans van Breukelen was one of the lecturers during the official launch of this new management study at the Maastricht School of Management.

Referring to the famous quote of Nelson Mandela: ‘Sport has the power to change the world’, Van Breukelen emphasized how much he believes that sport can change the world. “And it starts with good leadership, good leaders can make the difference,” he said during his inspiring speech. The international and multi-cultural aspect plays an important role. “And there is no better place to learn this than at an international business school as MSM where global diversity comes together.”

The Executive MBA in Sports Management was launched during a well-attended meeting with representatives from the sport, authority, industry and education. The importance of cooperation between these entities formed the core of various speeches.

 

MSM’s Dean Professor Wim Naudé presented a short explanation on the content of the new Executive MBA in Sports Management. Ger Koopmans, Deputy of Finance, Sport and Culture of the province of Limburg, explained the Limburg policy on sport. John van de Laar, Director of SportBizz and co-founder of Orange Sports Forum, underlined the power of cooperation between education, sport and industry and the necessary international component in management education. Finally Director Geert Ruigrok presented Topsport Limburg’s vision on top management in top sport.

 

The two-year part time Executive MBA in Sports Management is offered from January 2016 onwards by the Maastricht School of Management and Sportbizz, in cooperation with Topsport Limburg and the Orange Sports Forum. Several partners have already committed themselves to the programme, among them, KPMG, Infostrada Sports, Royal Haskoning DHV, AON and Impeco.

The fourfold accredited Executive MBA in Sports Management is the only MBA in Limburg accredited by the NVAO. The study prepares (top)athletes and professionals for management positions in the sport industry. One of the programme’s modules is offered on the island of Curaçao in cooperation with the University of the Dutch Caribbean (UDC).
