SportBizz was founded in 2004 by Camil Smeulders and John van de Laar. They both have many years of experience in the international sports business and have an extensive corporate network on boardroom level. SportBizz stands for Business Innovation and Business Creation in sport but also increasingly in industry. Innovation, internationalization, education and business ventures are the domains in which SportBizz has developed and expanded her expertise including establishing strategic partnerships. One of our most important partners is The Bridge Business Innovators, a  subsidiary of Twynstra Gudde and partner of Cordence Worldwide.

SportBizz operates worldwide within the triple helix of sport, industry and government.

In 2006 SportBizz stood at the basis of the world famous ‘Global Champions Tour’, a show jumping circuit on the highest, five star, level.  In addition equestrian events were founded in Saint-Tropez and Monte-Carlo together with Jan Tops. In 2007 the cooperation with the world hockey federation, FIH, was started. SportBizz became the European partner and successfully linked ING to the 2010 World Hockey Championships in Delhi. In 2009 SportBizz became the partner of Sail Amsterdam and in 2010 Global Dressage Analytics came into existence. This was a joint venture with Dr. David Stickland affiliated to Princeton and Akiko Yamazaki and Jerry Yang (founder of Yahoo! and owner of Four Winds Farm the famous US dressage stable). Global Dressage Analytics, or GDA in short, is the only company in the world that is dealing with the recording and analyzing of dressage scores with a wide range of applications for sport, events and media. The Orange Sports Forum was also founded in 2010 in cooperation with Twynstra Gudde and The Bridge Business Innovators. A foundation with now 300 connected companies and institutiones that work together to increase the export of Dutch sport related products and services.

In 2009 werd SportBizz partner van Sail Amsterdam en in 2010 werd Global Dressage Analytics in het leven geroepen. Dit is een joint venture met Dr. David Stickland, verbonden aan Princeton, Akiko Yamazaki en Jerry Yang (oprichter van Yahoo! en eigenaar van de bekende Amerikaanse dressuurstal Four Winds Farm). Global Dressage Analytics, of in het kort GDA, is het enige bedrijf ter wereld dat zich bezig houdt met het vastleggen en analyseren van dressuurscores met een breed scala aan applicaties voor de sport, evenementen en media. Het Orange Sports Forum werd eveneens in 2010 opgericht in samenwerking met Twynstra Gudde en The Bridge Business Innovators. Deze stichting telt nu 300 aangesloten bedrijven en instituten die samenwerken om de export van producten en diensten gerelateerd aan de Nederlandse sport te bevorderen. In 2014 stond SportBizz , samen met de Maastricht School of Management en de Universiteit van Maastricht, aan de basis van de International Sport Business Management MBA.
