MSM en SportBizz launch Executive MBA in Sports Management
Maastricht – Maastricht School of Management (MSM) and SportBizz start a new Executive MBA that focuses on Sports Management. The programme is offered in cooperation with Topsport Limburg and Orange Sports Forum and will start in January 2016.
The Executive MBA in Sports Management is a two-year part time programme that prepares (top) athletes and professionals for management positions in the sport industry.
“The sport industry has grown into one of the world’s largest industries. With an estimated value of 600 billion dollar annually the sport industry grows more on average than the global economy,” says Professor Wim Naudé, Dean MSM. “The dynamic of this industry demands competent and innovative leaders. Many top athletes start to work as manager after their sporting career. It requires different skills to lead a team than sport yourself. Therefore we have initiated this Executive MBA together with SportBizz, Topsport Limburg, Orange Sports Forum, various entrepreneurs from the sport and sporting icons Hans van Breukelen and Marc Lammers.”
Marc Lammers has learnt a lot about team building, innovation and the maximalization of team performances during his career as hockey coach. “I was able to use this knowledge during my time as national coach of the Dutch ladies hockey team that won gold at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Now I would like the share this knowledge and experience with the new generation of top managers in sport.”
The official launch of the Executive MBA in Sports Management will take place on 29 June 2015, from 12.00 until 14.00 hrs at the Maastricht School of Management, Endepolsdomein 150, Maastricht.
‘Ambassador’ of the programme Hans van Breukelen will explain the necessity of management education in sport. Ger Koopmans, Deputy for Finance, Sport and Culture in Limburg, will talk about the possibilities in the Limburg sports industry and the necessity of partnerships between the authorities, knowledge institutions and industry.
The initiators and partners of the programme will inform you further on the Executive MBA.
